What is aluminum riveting? Simply put, it is the process of joining two parts together using rivets. The rivet consists of a head and a shaft; during aluminum riveting, the parts are pulled together, and the shaft of the rivet breaks off, leaving only the head (flush or protruding) behind.
Riveting aluminum offers several advantages:
• No heat is required,
• The connection is strong and secure,
• No pre-treatment is necessary, and the surface remains undamaged,
• The material can be used immediately (no curing time or post-treatment needed), and
• Different materials can be riveted together.
The head of the rivet is usually convex, but can also be countersunk, leaving no convex projections at all. The length and diameter of the rivet are determined by the thickness and hardness of the material to be riveted.
If you want to rivet aluminium with rivets, or attach aluminium to other materials, then the choice of rivet type is important. Do you want a countersunk head or a rounded head, how thick is the material, and how hard or soft is the material? All factors that have a substantial influence on choosing the right rivet. There are specialists at Aluminized who can advise you on which type of rivet is best for you to rivet your aluminium product part to another part, whether it is also made of aluminium or another material.
