How can you bend aluminium?

Back to faq

Can you bend aluminium without it breaking? This is a question we get regularly. You can bend aluminium, but it is important that a number of conditions are met. The first is that the aluminium must not be too old. Aluminium has a natural ageing process and becomes hard and difficult to bend over time. This can also be the case if the aluminium has been stored in a warehouse for a long time, for example. Second condition is that the alloy must allow it; there are alloys that are not suitable for bending. And thirdly, the right bending tools must be used for bending aluminium. Absolutely no tools should be used that are also used for stainless steel!

If in doubt, ask whether the aluminium to be bent meets the conditions. If we are involved at an early stage in the design process and in building a prototype, we will give you expert advice and you will not have to wonder whether the design to be bent is possible.

Using a so-called ‘press brake’, we are able to bend various sizes and types of aluminium at different angles. Certainly sheet bending is a difficult process that should be carried out by a professional. Our professional and enthusiastic colleagues ensure that the machine is set up correctly and that the sheet metal working is done properly.
